Translation

Oh Joseph! Abandon (saying) this. (Oh woman) ask for forgiveness for your sin; verily, you became a sinner.”

Tafsir

Upon these events, Azizi Egypt, the husband of the woman, said to Hazrat Yusuf 'alaihis-salâm': O Yusuf, do not complicate this incident by telling left and right, just close it. Then there will be gossip among people. Then he turns to his wife and says: O woman, you too are a sinner, so repent. Because not only did you turn to prostitution, but you also accused an innocent person of a crime.

Some exegetes say in this verse that Azizi Egypt's manhood was weak and he could not protect his wife, so he resorted to this way to satisfy her ego. They say that the fact that this man kept his wife with him after these events shows this. It will be explained in the following verses that this is not true, that Hadrat Yusuf (as) was very beautiful and that the other women were mesmerized when they looked at Hadrat Yusuf (as) in admiration.

What is said in the video

In verse 29 of Surah Yusuf, it says: O Joseph, refrain from telling them about this; and you, woman, ask forgiveness for your sin, for you have been among the sinners, the Aziz says. What does her husband say? O Joseph, refrain from telling them about this, that is, do not gossip saying "she did this and that to me, my lady, I was innocent", he says; these things, he says, do not disclose. And to the woman he says: you too, ask Allah for forgiveness, you are a sinner, he says. Upon these events, the woman's husband, the Aziz, the Aziz of Egypt, says to Joseph (peace be upon him): O Joseph, do not tell this matter left and right and blow it out of proportion. Close it and be done with it.

Then there will be gossip among people. Thereupon he turns to his wife. Yes.

He says: O woman, since you are a sinner, repent. For you both turned to indecency and accused an innocent person of a crime. Some commentators say about this verse that, because our Aziz's manhood was weak, when he could not protect his wife, the woman resorted to this path to satisfy her nafs. These are not commentators. These are not commentators. In commentary these are like this anyway; if you read such people's commentaries, outside of Allah's verses, in a way that satisfies the desires of the nafs, they interpret along the paths of kufr. If you read them, in their commentaries they head toward kufr.

So these will (?) defend the woman. After all, the woman is human too. She too will satisfy herself, all of it. In this case, saying she turned to this like that, they move toward covering up a woman's guilt. These are people who are enemies of religion. We deliberately tell you this part from those commentaries so that you know it well. This man keeping his wife with him after all this shows it, they say.

Actually, if he keeps that woman with him then, it means this man is handing the woman over to others too. Yes, if by Allah's verses he knows that this woman did not sleep with anyone but her husband — for Allah would have called her a bad woman anyway. Her turning toward Joseph (peace be upon him); that Joseph (peace be upon him) was very beautiful; and when the woman, the woman, calling and inviting those who (?) her, gave them onions and knives in their hands, and brought Joseph out before them, they cut their hands. And the women said: God forbid, this is a human, he is an angel. We will come to the verses. We will come to them.

So those who say such things are scoundrels. Yes.

May Allah not let anyone — that is, may a person not be led astray. Once led astray, it is over. After that, the gossip among people runs wild.

That this is not true, that Joseph (peace be upon him) was very beautiful, that the other women too, when they looked at Joseph with admiration, were beside themselves — this will be explained in the verses below, we have said. Yes. Anyway, if these people had feared Allah, they would have tried to explain Allah's verses to people in the best way. Beneath the verses, in a way that accuses Allah, the words they spoke as they pleased.
