Translation

(When the man brought this interpretation), the ruler said, “bring him to me.” When the messenger came to Joseph, (he) said, “return and ask your master, ‘what were those women who cut their fingers, doing?’ Verily, Allah knows their conspiracy well.”

Tafsir

When Hadrat Yusuf 'alaihis-salâm' brought to the king the interpretation of the dream he had told to the man who came to him, the king said: Bring me Yusuf who made this interpretation. When the messenger told Yusuf 'alaihis-salâm' that the king wanted you, he replied to the messenger: Go back to your master: "Go back to your master and ask him what was the difficulty of those women who cut off his hands, for Yusuf 'alaihis-salâm' did not come out of the dungeon immediately, and he was completely innocent, and he was cleared of any doubt or suspicion by the people. The messenger told the king what Hadrat Yusuf 'alaihis-salâm' had said. Surely the king is a human being. Even if he is aware of some events, he may still be influenced by the events and make some wrong decisions. So he decides to find out the truth.

It is said that the messenger who came to the dungeon was the dungeon companion of Hadrat Yusuf 'alaihissalâm' whose dream he had interpreted earlier.

When he says, "My Lord knows their deception very well", he means that the ancient Egyptians worshipped polytheistic idols, that they did not benefit or harm people, that they were unaware even of themselves, and that Allah, the Creator of all things, is aware of all His creations, and that what He says is the truth from His Lord, as evidenced by the accuracy of His judgments. He says that these are the miracles that Allah, my Lord, the only One, has shown them to make people aware of His existence.

What is said in the video

Surah Yusuf, verse 50. When the man brought this interpretation, the king said: Bring him to me. When the messenger came to Joseph, Joseph said: Go back to your master and ask him: what was the matter with those women who cut their hands? Surely my Lord knows their scheming very well, he says. Now Joseph is told this as good news, you see — they will release him. This time Joseph says: go back to your master. What was the matter with them? They cut their hands.

Ask him: what was the matter with those women who cut their hands? Surely my Lord knows their scheming very well, he says. For this reason: that Joseph was innocent, and that those women, on seeing Joseph, cut their hands on the onions and fruits they were slicing, and that all of them together fell in love with Joseph and joined forces to seduce him; in the face of this Joseph said, O my Lord, prison is better for me than this, and into prison — Allah Almighty accepted his prayer and sent him to prison, and finally Joseph (peace be upon him) reminds the king of this again too. The interpretation of the dream that Joseph (peace be upon him) told the man who came to him — when he brought it to the king and told it, the king said: Bring me Joseph, who made this interpretation.

When the messenger told Joseph (peace be upon him), the king wants you, his answering the messenger, go back to your master, shows that Joseph (peace be upon him) did not leave the prison right away and that he wanted to be cleared so that people would leave no room at all for doubt or suspicion that he was completely innocent: go back to your master and ask, what was the matter with those women who cut their hands? The messenger conveys to the king what Joseph (peace be upon him) said. Surely the king is also a human being. Even if he knows about some events, still, being influenced by events, he may make some decisions wrongly. For this reason he decides to learn the truth of the matter.

The messenger who came to the prison is said to be the prison companion of Joseph (peace be upon him) whose dream he had interpreted earlier. When he says, my Lord knows their scheming very well — that the ancient Egyptians worshipped many gods, idols, that these neither benefit nor harm people, that they are unaware even of themselves, that by saying my Lord, Allah, who created everything, is aware of all His creatures, and that what he said is true, coming from his Lord — this is understood from the soundness of the decisions he made. These are the miracles that Allah, my one and only Lord, showed them to make His existence known to people, he is saying.
