Tafsir
Then Joseph's brothers said: According to our law, the stolen property is to be confiscated from the person whose cargo it is found in. That is, they will have the right to make him work as a slave for a year, because this is our punishment for wrongdoers. They are confident when they say this. Because they are unaware of the game that is being played and they are innocent in this matter. In order to prove their innocence, they want to show that they are right by introducing their own laws. Otherwise, they would not have responded to them at all, but would have paid double the rations according to Egyptian law and left.
