Translation

(His sons) said, “Swear by Allah, you still mention Joseph. At the end, you will either become ill or you will be destroyed.”

Tafsir

His sons, saddened by their father's condition, tried to comfort him: O our father! You are still remembering Joseph; you will eventually fall ill or perish. In other words, this sorrow and grief will cause your death. They did not know that Hadrat Ya'qub (peace be upon him) knew many things by revelation. Ya'qub 'alaihis-salâm' is a Prophet. He is also aware of many events with the knowledge that Allah has taught him. Within these events, he would cling to the reasons, and within these reasons, he would speak the truth. But people could not understand Yaqub 'alaihis-salâm' because they had given up hope in Hadrat Yusuf 'alaihis-salâm'.

Eventually they will realize that Ya'qub 'alaihis-salâm' was right. Allah's wisdom will be manifested and they will be reunited.
