Ar-Ra'd 34: There is only one punishment in the worldly life for them, the punishment of the hereafter is more severe. And there is no one to save them from Allah (Allah’s punishment).

Translation

There is only one punishment in the worldly life for them, the punishment of the hereafter is more severe. And there is no one to save them from Allah (Allah’s punishment).

Tafsir

There is a torment in this world for those who disbelieve in Allah and the Hereafter. They are always restless, they cannot find peace because they have no faith. They are subjected to many calamities, diseases and natural disasters. In the Hereafter, they will be in endless torment and torture.

There is no one to protect them from the punishment of Allah. Allah will remove the attribute of Mercy from them in the Hereafter and they will be alone and desolate in the Hereafter. The idols they worshipped will also go away from them. The bankruptcy of man is not the bankruptcy of this world, but the bankruptcy of the Hereafter. If this whole world were yours, you would enjoy and live in it only as long as your lifetime, and then at death you would hand it over to its owner. But since there is no death in the hereafter, bankruptcy there is not like here. You will be punished by Allah, the Judge of Judges, with the burden of sin you have earned, and you will have no helper or master to save you except Him.

What is said in the video

Of Surah Ar-Rad, the 34th verse: "In the life of the world there is only a punishment for them," it says. Only a punishment. Hodja, what kind of punishment is this? These men are on yachts, in (?), in vineyards, in gardens, sir, amid every kind of blessing. What kind of punishment is this?

Let me tell you this much.

The worst of punishments is to live in the world without peace. To live without peace. Allah Almighty says of these too: they are lying disbelievers. Their hearts are restless and scattered, it says. These, not to find peace, whether on yachts, on beaches, in mansions, in palaces, wherever they may be, these are restless and in torment. For these the world is narrow, narrow.

And to get rid of this restlessness, they turn to alcohol, which Allah has forbidden, enjoying themselves with the drinks in their hands, within the traps Satan has set for them, drinking forbidden substances that Allah does not want, and for that moment, with Satan making it seem pleasing to their nafs, losing themselves, they think living in that world of theirs is living. Yet they are sinking, as one sinks into a swamp.

Yes.

Can there be anything lacking in Allah's verse? And it says: "In the life of the world there is only a punishment for them." Only such a punishment. "And the punishment of the hereafter, (?), is even more severe." May Allah protect us.

Yes. The eternal abode of life, that (?) which He calls a bed — people who, while in the world, seek that Hell, of course the punishment here is only a temporary punishment of the body. But in the hereafter, an eternal, undying punishment.

"And there is no one to protect them from Allah, from His punishment," it says. Of course. If He is the absolute ruler and owner of the universe, that day, if judgment belongs to Allah alone — and they grasp this verse wrongly, they say "judgment is Allah's." Judgment is not Allah's. "That day judgment is Allah's alone." This drops the "that day," they say "judgment is Allah's alone." Well, if judgment is Allah's alone — if you understand the verse like this and (?) and say it this way, I am making a judgment; is this speech of mine not a judgment? If you (?) to me, isn't it my judgment? If you helped me, isn't it my judgment?

Then where did my judgment go? Where did the reward and sin I will earn by my will go? Ah. "That day judgment belongs to Allah alone," it says. That day no one will be able to speak in His presence. Except those He permits.

Except those who attain that station of intercession. Other than those He permits, it says. No one will be able to speak. In that case, on a day when judgment is Allah's alone, who can protect man other than Allah?

No one. Because other than our Lord, who is the owner of the universe and our owner too, we have nothing.

Yes.

So for those who deny Allah and the hereafter there is a punishment in the world. A punishment. These are constantly without peace. They are without peace. Since they have no faith, they cannot find peace. With many calamities, illnesses and natural disasters they are left subjected to punishments. Yes.

It is useful to correct this part.

We deleted that part. We are reading this part again. With many calamities, illnesses and natural disasters, disasters, these are left subjected to these punishments.

And in the hereafter they are in constant, endless, unending suffering and torture. There is no one to protect them from Allah's punishment. In the realm of the hereafter Allah will remove from them His attribute of mercy, His attribute of mercy will remove, and in the realm of the hereafter they will remain alone and without anyone. The idols they worshipped will also move away from them and go. So man's bankruptcy is not bankruptcy in the world, it is bankruptcy in the hereafter.

The Prophet says in his hadith: "The bankrupt of my ummah is not the one who goes bankrupt in the world," he says. "It is the one who goes bankrupt in the hereafter," he says.

However much you go bankrupt in the world, with worldly goods, one day you will depart from here. But if one has gone bankrupt in his hereafter, you will remain (?) to the eternal suffering of an endless life. Yes.

Even if this whole world were yours, you would benefit from it only as long as your life, and live. In the end, with death, you hand over the goods and property to their owner, and you go. But since there is no death in the realm of the hereafter, bankruptcy there is not like here. With the burden of sin you earned, you become deserving of punishment by Allah, the Judge of judges. You become so. You will find neither a helper nor a protector to save you from Him.
