If you were to see them when they will be brought to the presence of their Lord! Allah will say; “Was it (resurrection) not true?”. They will say; “Swear by our Lord, yes indeed it was!”. Allah will say; “Because of your denial, taste the punishment”.
Tafsir
When people who have convinced themselves that there is no resurrection after death are brought before Allah (swt), they will be filled with regret and despair. When they realize that they will have to atone for what they have done, they will be unable to stand out of fear, their hearts will be tight, and they will feel as if they will lose their minds. They humble themselves before their Lord and wish that the universe were theirs, that they could give it to Allah and be saved from torment.
Allah (swt) will address these people in His presence and say, "Is not the resurrection after death true? And they will say, 'By our Lord, yes. In fact, their minds did not deny Allah while they were in the world because they knew Allah. Their nafs deceived them into believing that Allah does not exist, and they were judging what their nafs liked, and they were going in the direction of denying Allah. Or because they did not believe in Allah, they disbelieved in Allah who created them, believing that there was a Lord whom their own minds could conceive, and they were associating partners with Allah.
Allah will say to those who think that they will be saved from their sins by confessing with their mouths before their Lord that they have committed sins, that they denied the existence of Allah, that there is no resurrection after death, and that today is the day of justice. He will say, "This is a Day when everyone will be recompensed for what he has done without the slightest injustice to anyone, and He will say, 'Taste the torment for the punishments you have committed.
What is said in the video
when they are brought. Hodja, what is there here?
I am addressing the people who pass themselves off as scholars, as hodjas, now. Weren't they supposed not to see Allah? Allah was invisible.
Allah was invisible. Did you make a covenant with an invisible god, with Allah? Will an invisible Allah call you to account?
Look what it says. When they are brought before their Lord, that is to say, at the great court, Allah Almighty, who is 'Alaysa Allahu bi-ahkami'l-hakimin', will call us to account. Will an unseen god call us?
Those poor people also say this. Allah is free from form, they say. Yes. Allah is free from form, but not free from form in the way you understand. Well. He is free from a particular form. From a particular form. They lost this, a particular form. They lost a form that is particular. They said Allah is free from form. If He is free from form, of course He is invisible. Now isn't this a superstitious idea? According to the verses. Aren't these superstitions? Like what? Judgement, it says, belongs to Allah alone. No. (?). Why do you say the verse only partially? Instead of saying that day judgement belongs to Allah alone: that day judgement belongs to Allah alone. Allah has no partner either.
No spouse either. What will He do? The judgement. Today, it says, judgement is Mine alone. Where? When we are raised in the world of the Hereafter, judgement is Allah's. Judgement is Allah's. And so you remove that day, say judgement is Allah's, and your own judgement, you remove it. Judgement is Allah's, and with the judgements you made, the sin you committed in your actual deeds, Allah makes you commit it. Look at the matter, the matter. Look at the matter.
Yes.
Listen well.
Yes.
So every soul will go before its Lord. Illallah. That (?) Lord of mine, whom he will see again just as he saw (?). Illallah. He, it says, stood upright in his true form.
What was his true form? So look, He is free from a particular form, yet (?) changes with attributes, so what was his true form? It is His appearing in the form in which He appeared to all souls at the address 'Alastu bi-Rabbikum'. It is right upon His true form. Yes. Allah revealed to His servant what He revealed, it says.
If people are unaware of the verses, (?) the verse does not mean I know the meaning of the verse. Memorising the Quran does not mean I know the verses. The hafiz of the Word has a place above my head, (?) hafiz. The word of Allah. But if he sets out to explain it, if he is not qualified, he explains it wrongly. Today in books, in fiqh, many things written have been conveyed wrongly. First of all, as it was conveyed in the Holy Quran. Now look how nicely they printed it. That is, as a thing, a in terms of checking, we can show claims. Let's hold it like this. Yes. The greens and reds can probably be seen, can't they?
Green, red. Here. You can see it too. Like this. The wrong one in red above, and the green one below, the correct one. Yes.
For example, look now, what does it say? The red is the wrong one. Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 17. Now I'm reading you the wrong one. Their state, the hypocrites', is like a fire burning on a dark night. When the fire lights up its surroundings, Allah immediately takes away their light. And leaves them in darkness. Can Allah be like this? I'm telling you now. If Allah is going to take away their light, why did He send us this Holy Quran? O people, I am your Lord, says Allah Almighty. Look, believe in the Quran I sent you, believe in your prophet, and I will give you His Paradise, He says. What would I say? You sent me Your Quran, but You removed my light from in front of me.
You said it Yourself, You said it Yourself; what did You say? Allah immediately takes away their light. That is, You removed the Quran from in front of me; the Quran is a light, too. And You left me in darkness. You are (?); since I could not go against You, I have carried out Your command. What do You want from me? (?) this, that is. (?) this.
But that is not the truth of the matter. Look now. At the correct version.
Their state, the hypocrites', is like a fire burning on a dark night. Right. That is, they are in pitch darkness. Where? Not in the darkness of the night. Because they turned their backs on (?), and because their minds are sound too, beside Allah's light they are in darkness with the whims of their own nafs. In darkness.
When the fire lights up its surroundings, that is, when Allah Almighty with the Holy Quran, with His verses, lights up people's surroundings, when He holds a light for them, when He sends them His book as proof, those who put out the fire, that is, those who turn their backs on it, leave themselves in darkness; they no longer see. How do you blame Allah here?
I didn't write this. The Diyanet writes it. The Diyanet. The Diyanet's book. And we are correcting it.
(?) the book of (?). Open it here. Sir, Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 17. Here. Here.
Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 17. What does it say? Their state, the hypocrites', is like one who kindles a fire on a dark night. The moment that fire burns and lights up its surroundings, Allah Himself immediately takes away their light and leaves them in darkness. They can no longer see anything. Now I ask. Did they attribute qualities to Allah Almighty? Didn't they attribute qualities? Yes.
Isn't that so, Kenan Hodja? May Allah be pleased with you. Yes. What has protected these Muslims? Their faith.
Plus, their not reading the Quran. If they had read it, you know, each of them would have got stuck in different thoughts about Allah. Their faith protected them, so that they attribute no deficiency to Allah. But now they will read it, Allah willing. So, when they are brought before their Lord, if only you could see them, it says. Whom? Those polytheists.
Because they understand that they will end up in hell, if only you could see their regret. Do you know what their regrets are? If only we had at least gone along with them. Something like: if only we had gone along with them in rebellion too and got off the hook. Did you see, look, still that Lord of our imagination, the Lord they await, hasn't come to them yet. They are waiting for him. They have entered that world. In that crucible.
Even in hell, the non-existent Lord of their imagination, who created those worlds, will come. They will take revenge on Allah, that is, on Allah who created the worlds. With these feelings they remain in hell forever. Yes. Allah will say: was this resurrection not true, then? And they will say: yes, by our Lord. And Allah will say: then taste the torment because you denied it.
To your mind a question like this may come.
Allah will say: was this resurrection not true, then? And they will say: yes, by our Lord. And Allah will say: then taste the torment because you denied it. Wasn't Allah Almighty (?)? Wasn't He forgiving people when He pardoned? Hadn't He kept 99% of His mercy for Himself for the Day of Judgement? And these confessed too.
In earlier lessons I said: if only they had known Me. This 'if only', I said. Don't forget the 'if only', I said. You heard it, didn't you? Kenan Hodja, the 'if only'. Yes. If only they had known Me. That is, when We made the covenant with them; people don't know about the covenant anyway. When We made the covenant with them while they were still in the world of souls, out of their arrogance and pride, against Allah Almighty, that is, against His Self, out of their rebellion, out of the greatness of their own nafs, their pride and arrogance, because they waited for the Lord of their own imagination, turning their backs on Allah Almighty, saying who are You, in that way, against the desires and wishes of Allah Almighty, that is, against their own desires and wishes, they had their destinies written.
The writing of that destiny depends on characters. They made those characters work in themselves. With those characters people form desires and wishes. And Allah Almighty constantly creates causes. People, with their own judgements, with the judgements they made; as I said a moment ago, it says judgement belongs to Allah alone. No. As long as he lives, the judgement belongs to people. That day judgement belongs to Allah alone. Look, pay close attention. It is like that in the verse too. That day judgement belongs to Allah alone. So the judgement is the living people's own judgements. How will my good be written?
How will it be written? Am I telling you about Allah? Isn't this good? (?) (?) will write the evil. What is evil? I slap you out of the blue, an evil. I take this now and break it, hit it, break it, throw it. That is an evil too. It will be written there. So who made this judgement? Did Allah make it for me? I made it myself. So if you made it yourself, look how well our forefathers (?): he who falls by himself does not cry.
Yes. The judgement is the judgements of the living people. Did you think you would die without proving what kind of person you are, according to the verse? The judgement is people's judgement. But the judgement is sealed with the last breath. You have no more judgement now. In the world of the Hereafter, where your judgement has expired, before Allah Almighty, your account will be rolled up in such a way that you will not have a single word left to say. When people start talking there, Allah Almighty will say: be silent. Be silent! Today judgement is Mine alone, He says. Yes.
Isn't that so, Kenan Hodja? May Allah be pleased with you, Hodja. It is so. Very good.
So don't forget that 'if only'. If only they had known Me. My mercy is so (?). So in the world of the Hereafter there is no return for them again. You know how He says: if only they had known Me here. There is no return. What return? There is no return to change characters again. The reason? The reason is this. A word has gone forth from Us, it says. Paradise and hell too. Allah willing. You are Allah; let Him change His word about people; can't it be? No. Why not? Today I changed this for you. Tomorrow I change that for him. Tomorrow I change this for this one too. Then, later, since people's desires and wishes never end, everywhere becomes (?). Neither Paradise nor hell remains.
Allah willing. This is an 'Allah willing'. If this were a human fabrication, many (?) that don't agree with each other would be found in it, it says. So since that word has gone forth, since Allah's word will not change again, Allah Almighty, who is free from imperfect attributes, has given His complete decision according to people's states. So this is the decision. For example, two hydrogens, one oxygen (?) water. Two hydrogens and one oxygen, water forms. If one of these were missing, water would not form. So according to people's characters, in terms of their whole creation, Allah Almighty has laid down all His laws in such a way that no deficiency comes to any person, nor to Allah Almighty.
If that changed, everything would be turned upside down. Secondly, there is a book with Us, it says, preserved in the Preserved Tablet. After that neither an addition nor a deficiency is made to it, it says. In this case, since Allah Almighty will not make a deficiency in them, what would happen if He changed His word? Why then would I make so much effort upon effort here for Allah Almighty? People, He says, make effort upon effort for Allah, He says. Yes. Why do I do it? Why do I work overtime? Today I travelled nine hundred kilometres. I got up at four in the morning. I went to bed at twelve at night. I have four hours of sleep.
Still I came. I made it to the lesson. I am teaching. My God, Allah. Don't I know my own comfort too? But I fear Allah. So, are those who know and those who don't know ever equal, says Allah Almighty? Well, in this case.
By telling you these things, don't you dare get an idea like this: look, he has the decision made beside Allah for himself. The decision belongs to Allah, of course. The good or evil I have done: I may consider something good and it becomes evil, I may consider something evil and it becomes good. That decision belongs to Allah. Don't let such a thing come to your mind; I'm giving this as an example. I'm giving an example from myself. Its assessment is left to Allah. If He wishes He punishes me, if He wishes He rewards me. Its assessment belongs to Him. But are those who work and those who don't ever equal, He says.
Are those who know and those who don't know ever equal, says Allah Almighty. In this case, then, Allah Almighty has laid down His law. Since Paradise and hell are eternal, their saying there, my Allah, we knew You, is deceiving their own nafs; they think they will deceive Allah too. Poor people. They think they will deceive Allah. Yes. People who are still, even there, unaware that they are deceiving their own nafs. Yes.
Let's read the verse once more, then start its commentary. When they are brought before their Lord, if only you could see them; Allah will say: was this resurrection not true, then? And they will say: yes, by our Lord. Don't say it if you don't want to. Don't say it if you don't want to.
Now suppose you told me: there is life outside. I am now inside a room. There is life outside. If I said: where does life outside go about? If here I fell asleep, asleep, and in the world of sleep you took me outside, when I opened my eyes, truly, as they said, there is a world outside. If the man who told me about life outside came and said: was there life outside, did you see? I'd say yes, there was; but it's too late, a useless word. So take the sleep here as the state of death, take the state outside as the resurrection in the world of the Hereafter, and the one who says those words to you as our Lord; He tells you everything with verses.
Was the event of resurrection not true, then? He will say. And they will say: yes, by our Lord. And Allah will say: then taste the torment because you denied it.
People who want to convince themselves that there is no resurrection after death; why do we say 'want to convince'? What is the reason? Because they too, for their worldly, lustful, material interests, for their carnal feelings, although they know that the Hereafter exists there, the Hereafter exists, deceiving themselves, are people who want to convince themselves that it does not exist.
Like whom?
One who makes lowliness his motto, (?). Like Darwin, who could not see the quality of humanity as fitting for himself. Because he came from a monkey. His ancestor was a monkey, apparently.
And with changes he became human.
There is no Allah, he says. You say there is no Allah, so what are you proving? I don't prove anything that does not exist. This in my hand is a mouse. If I see this mouse, I prove it. If I am going to deny it, I deny it. Its denial. If it doesn't exist, I wouldn't even speak at all. So if you make this denial although you know Allah, you are affirming it. You are affirming your Lord. In this case, what do we call such people? People who want to convince themselves, that is, who want to convince themselves there is no Hereafter; they too know that Allah exists, but because they cannot give up their carnal feelings, they deceive themselves, poor people.
As we said a moment ago, the intellect knows that it has a Lord who created it, the intellect. Every intellect knows this. How does it know? It knows from 'they said yes'. But through the nafs's rebellion against Allah, the temptation Satan gave it, people following two-legged taghuts, as these follow Satan, deceiving their own nafs, create an anarchy in themselves. Anarchy. To satisfy this anarchy, to satisfy themselves, they resort to various ways.
Yes. So people who want to convince themselves that there is no resurrection after death, when they are brought before Allah Almighty, these people are in regret and (?).
When they realise they will pay the atonement for what they did, out of fear he cannot stand, his heart tightens; if only you could see how they are as if they will lose their minds. If only you could see. How do you know? From the verse. Look what it says: when they are brought before their Lord, if only you could see them, it says. If only you could see their states. If you could tell what kind of situation they are in.
Yes.
When they understand that they will receive the punishment, when they understand there is no escape, their hearts tighten. They are seized by a fear. Especially after the verdict comes out, the verdict, that is, when the verdict of eternal hell comes out, their eyes, it says, bulging out like sky blue, and their throwing themselves face down on the ground, it says. Yes.
When they realise they will pay the atonement for what they did, out of fear he cannot stand, his heart tightens; if only you could see how they are as if they will lose their minds. Hodja, did you see it?
A book written with an inspiration our Lord gave. We always say it. With the counterpart of the texts of the verses. A book written by living it. Yes. These, humbling and debasing themselves before their Lord, wish that the universe were theirs so they could give it to Allah and be saved from the torment themselves.
And Allah Almighty again says in His verse: this world, if there were one more world and they gave it, He says, to be saved from the torment, that is, if they were saved from the torment. In no way will Allah be satisfied, He says, with them. In no way. He will not be satisfied with them. That is, a person, to a person, a criminal, to a president, a prime minister: look, this is like this, this is like that. For this one, sir, I said, help a bit. Have pity on him, lighten his punishment; they can pull strings like that. Can't they? States. They protect some people. In this way. Allah Almighty stresses that there is no such thing in the world of the Hereafter.
In no way will there be a wish to be satisfied with them, He says. There will be no wish to be satisfied. If he gave this universe once more, He says, being saved, He says, they will want to be saved from the torment, He says. Whose property will you give to whom, so that you will be saved from that torment?
The heavens and the earth, what is between the two. The inheritance of what is between the two, it says, will remain with Allah. Every soul will taste death. The inheritance of the heavens, the earth and what is between the two will remain with Allah. Because whatever there is from the atom to the globe, Allah Almighty, who created it, is the owner of what He created. In us, these trusts our Lord has given us, and because of the path in which we use them, a body and also these materials, all of it is Allah Almighty placing on this world the materials we need, so that we prove what kind of people we are; then we working and earning these within our needs, by buying, by trade, by selling, you prove what kind of person you are.
And every soul will taste death. What Allah Almighty created, what He created, will again remain in His Self. It will remain in the world. Not only what is in the world. What is in the universe. What does it say? The inheritance of the heavens, the earth and what is between the two is Allah's, it says. That is, there is no other god besides Allah. This symbolises tawhid. It symbolises tawhid. Whatever there is that is seen, from the atom to the globe, the owner of it all is Allah, it says. So you are the trustee of this. While you use these, the desire you feel for them, my buying and my selling. My continuing life with them and giving thanks or not.
By being ungrateful or not, you prove what kind of person you are, it says. On the Day of Judgement, in the world of the Hereafter, at that great court, when one is called to account with Allah Almighty, before Allah Almighty, in such a way that you will have no word left to say to Allah Almighty; according to the verse that says: what everyone earned, (?), as the recompense of his own two hands, will be given to him, everyone will see the recompense of what he earned. So, Allah Almighty, calling out to these people in His presence: was resurrection after death not true, then? In His presence. You know those who say there is no Allah.
You know those who say He is invisible; let's not say 'there is not', those who say He is invisible. These are a nice slap for them. Yes. So Allah Almighty, calling out to these people in His presence, (?) that resurrection after death is true? And they will say: yes, by our Lord. Anyway, while in the world, their minds knew Allah and did not deny Him; their minds knew, they did not deny Allah, because their minds know. Sir, their nafs deceiving them that there is no Allah, they too, ruling by what pleased their nafs, were going in the direction of denying Allah. So their minds know. If their minds had not known that Allah exists, here Allah Almighty would be given attributes. His Self; that is, since He could not give that person a mind that would realise that it was created, created by a Lord, He would ask nothing of that person.
But every person, every person who will come from our father Adam until the Day of Judgement, knows that he was created by a Lord. Because they said yes, it says. Where? In the world of Lahut. At the address 'Alastu bi-Rabbikum'. In the place where all souls were created. He said: I am your Lord. He said: I am not. He said: am I not? You know, they write: am I not your Lord? Am I not? It is not like that. I am your Lord, your Lord. If there is anyone to claim the opposite of this, let (?) of this word come out. When He says, am I not your Lord, take this as the soul. Take it as a person's soul.
While He creates this millimetre by millimetre, while He creates it, this will see the one who created it. After that He will say to it: did I not create you? You know, if it denies: did I not create you? Don't you know? Something like: I created you. Then, when it denies this, Allah Almighty will say: did I not create you? Yet it has no knowledge that it was created.
The soul has no knowledge that it was created.
Like what?
Like the body of Adam being made from clay. Does it know? Does the body know? When the soul enters, it comes to life. So in the creation of that soul, just as it waited in the barzakh, man, unaware of himself. And the bodies waiting in the grave. There too unaware of himself. The souls were created. How many? However many souls will come to the world, billions were created.
If I connected these to a frequency, the moment I pressed the button, if they all woke up,
if they all came to at once, then, at that moment, Allah Almighty says: I am your Lord, I created you. And the Prophet beside Him says yes, as witness. This is our Lord. Support Him, affirm Him. There, those who saw their own existence, all around thirty-three years old, on seeing their Lord like themselves, split into groups. Into groups. Into groups according to their own minds. Just as in a school yard during an exam people split into groups, according to their own minds. These too split into three groups.
Those who knew, the people of the right. Those who denied, the people of the left. And the class of the muqarrabun, those brought near. In this case, these people, when they made the covenant with Allah Almighty, or when He said I am your Lord, look at themselves: yes, I was created. I have a Lord. There he says yes. They affirm this themselves. I was created. This is the yes. But knowingly he denies that the one before him created him. He waits for the one in his imagination. That is a separate matter. So all people, from our father Adam, the people who will come until the Day of Judgement, know that they were created by a Lord.
Because they know, this intellect, this intellect, in this world too, since it knows that it was created by a Lord, here too what do we say? Look, what do we say here too?
They will say: yes, by our Lord. Anyway, while in the world, their minds knew Allah and did not deny Him, we say. Their minds; their nafs deceiving them that there is no Allah, they too, ruling by what pleased their nafs, were going in the direction of denying Allah. Allah willing. Yes. What a subtle sentence. Allah willing. If one can understand it. From where all are we talking about these things? Yes.
Or, when they did not believe in Allah, believing that there is a Lord that their own minds encompassed, that is, because he did not believe in that Allah, believing that there is a Lord that their own minds encompassed, they denied Allah and associated partners with Allah.
So before their Lord, the sins they committed with their mouths, their denying the existence of Allah, that there is no resurrection after death; today to those who think they will be saved from their sins by confessing these are true, Allah Almighty says: then today is the day of justice. The day of justice. So that not the slightest injustice is done to anyone, on a day when everyone will receive the recompense of what he did; it is a day, He says; in return for the punishments you have committed, taste this. Taste it then, He says. The torment, He will say. Yes.
