Translation

Say; “I was forbidden to leave Allah and worship the idols you are worshipping.” Say; “I do not follow your desires. In that case, I surely would have gone astray, and I would not be among those who have reached the right path!”

Tafsir

Say to those who are in the darkness of shirk, to those who worship what they have made with their hands as Allah, I have been forbidden from worshipping the idols that you worship. By forbidden, it means that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was raised and educated by Allah (swt) Himself. Since the Prophet (PBUH) knew that the idols they were worshipping were objects created by Allah, would he leave Allah who created him and worship Allah's creation as Allah? So say to those who are in the darkness of polytheism, to those who associate partners with Allah, I have been forbidden from worshipping your idols which you worship.

Say, 'I do not follow your desires. Why does Allah (swt) command the Prophet not to follow their desires? If these people in the darkness of shirk had been of sound mind, would they have worshipped as gods what they had made with their own hands, which did not even benefit them? Such people are incapable of governing and managing themselves. They are mindless. They are people who do not want to use their minds.

Therefore, their desires and wishes do not end. Their desires and wishes are the forbidden laws of Allah (swt). So say, my Messenger, I do not follow your desires and wishes. Then I have indeed gone astray and I will not be among the rightly guided.

This means that people who do not use their intellect and associate shirk with Allah are both confused and not on the right path. If they die in this state, they will be deprived of Allah's mercy and suffer eternal torment in the Hereafter.

Verse 56: Say: abandoning Allah, I have been forbidden to worship the idols you are worshipping.

Yes. One must pay attention to the words, to the verses. What does it say? Say: abandoning Allah, the idols you are worshipping – I have been forbidden to worship them. this verse, up to here, is the counterpart of this hadith: My Lord educated me, He educated me well. Yes. If hadiths are not the counterpart of verses, they are not hadiths. Imam-ı Kadir says: one who knows three hadiths is a scholar; he even says one who knows one hadith is a scholar, he says. One hadith – how will he know the hadith? He will know it under the light of verses like this. And if he says that one who knows that hadith, one hadith, in one hadith of his, is a scholar – if he can know a hadith under the light of the verses, that person, if that person can attain the rank of scholar, then this is a person who can tell whether it is a hadith or not.

That is why not everything that is said is a hadith. It will be under the light of the verses. And for that person to know hadith, he must know the verses well.

Having memorised the word does not mean knowing the verses. Arabic does not mean knowing the verses. Even with both Arabic and memorisation, it still does not mean knowing the verses. Then how will we know, Hodja? How will we know? If you encompass the verses according to your own reason. In the first meaning, it is correct. So it is. As far as you can know, as far as you can understand. What does it say? We never refrain from giving the example of a mosquito and (?). Of course Allah Almighty gives it to you in a way you will understand. But it is a verse that changes from meaning to meaning. The subtleties in them, the wisdom in them – that is only for those of whom He says: to whom We give knowledge, to him We give wisdom – that is their state.

These know the verses and the wisdom in those verses. According to that wisdom they understand whether these hadiths are verse or not, and select. Yes. Now we understand better how a hadith is told apart or not. Yes.

So: abandoning Allah, I have been forbidden to worship the idols you worship. So it is like this: My Lord educated me, He educated me well. The hadith. The one from us who was forbidden is the Prophet. Those who follow him are Muslims. Those who follow Allah's commands are also Muslims. They will follow Allah's commands. Allah Almighty did not forbid the others. He says it only to the Prophet; look, say, He says, say. To whom? To the Prophet: say. Abandoning Allah, I have been forbidden to worship the idols you are worshipping, He says. Yes. Say: I do not follow your desires. Say: I do not follow your desires.

Yes. In that case I would truly have gone astray. And I would not be among those rightly guided, He says. Yes. In a verse He will also say this. I do not follow your desires. If I had followed them, if I had followed, or if they had been followed, the universe would not stand in place. It would fall into chaos. Yes.

To those in the darkness of shirk, Allah Almighty – those who worship as Allah what their hands have made – say: I have been forbidden to worship the idols you are worshipping.

(?).

Yes. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), Allah Almighty Himself raised and educated him. Since the Prophet (peace be upon him) knew that the idols they were worshipping were objects created by Allah, would he abandon Allah who created him and worship what Allah created as Allah? Yes.

For this reason, to those in the darkness of shirk, to people who ascribe partners to Allah, say: I have been forbidden to worship your idols that you are worshipping. I have been forbidden to follow your desires. Because however intelligent you may be, however inventive you may be, you do not have the intellect of a prophet. Even if – God forbid, no one is above the Prophet's intellect – even if you were above the Prophet's intellect, since you are not above Allah's intellect, you are a helpless servant of Allah, you are obliged to do what Allah says, because He is the one who brought these worlds into being from nothing, who with His knowledge and power all these worlds created and holds them under His power.

For this reason, I do not follow your wishes and desires, what you worship I do not worship, I follow only the command of Allah, the owner of these worlds – say this, He says.

Say: I do not follow your desires. Why? That the Prophet not follow their desires, Allah Almighty commands. If these people in the darkness of shirk used their reason and had sound minds, what they made with their hands, which brings no benefit even to themselves, believing them to be gods, would they worship it? Yes. If they were intelligent. You come, (?) this, come to this, open your hands, ask from this. There is one who created this too. Is this reasonable? Ah, he says, for this, he says, of what I imagined I made the shape. I put its spirit into this, he says. Well then, you made the shape of what you imagined.

If you also put its spirit into it,

has that spirit, even once since our father Adam, have these idols found a voice and spoken? Have they shown you the way? What does Allah Almighty say about them? Do they have eyes that see? Do they have hands that hold? Do they have feet that walk? Do they have tongues that speak? Or do they have ears that hear?

Well then, in this situation, all, if Allah Almighty sets out His verses in a way every mind will understand – which is what He loves. All the questions all people will ask, He says, We have set out in the Quran, He says. In the Quran. In this situation, if Allah Almighty is speaking constantly, constantly and in our time – we won't call them many miracles, prophets show miracles – many events, the occurrence of events, through some events of rescue, or through calamities, or through His mercy, He lays out His existence before our eyes. He gives drought. Drought.

Why does He give it? So that they pray. If it weren't for your prayers, your worship, what would We do with you, He says. To Him, to Allah, we will pray. There is a drought. At once our Hodjas get up, together with a group of people they go up to a nice plateau, they go up the mountains, to the heights. After praying a couple of rak'ahs, they make supplication. They see the rains coming. Well, if this is not Allah, what is it? Who sent you that rain? There was none until now, so why has it come now? Now I will show you a much better event. Don't take me for a partisan, mind you. What does Allah Almighty say? Before your eyes thousands of miracles (?), (?), you don't see, He says.

Now some people may perhaps take offence at this remark, but let them never take offence. These are eyes that see. Let them never take offence, and the word of truth when they hear, not beside the nafs, not beside Satan, but beside the truth let them take their place. Some people – before this party, in the time of the people who came to power, droughts began. The dams ran dry. Oh, they made bombs in the sky, they would make it rain. This will happen, that will happen. Sir, restrict this and that, do it like this, they said. And they could not prevent it. But when this party came, when this government was formed, Allah sends rain. The dams are full, the waters are full, mercy is full, and hail in plenty.

What is this? It is the counterpart of this verse. O people! As you are, so We bring such rulers over you, He says. Now, with more than fifty percent of the people, in an Islamic feeling, with those they brought to lead them, Allah Almighty showers His mercy on them. See these well. I am not saying this one is bad, that one is bad. They too, then, if their ways were good, they too, yes, within their own beliefs consider themselves right, but as religion, it is Islam. No one can go outside Islam. If he does, he goes outside Allah's verses, and Allah then gives such calamities. In this situation, I am saying this without condemning anyone's belief.

I am only conveying the message. Conveying. There is no religion other than Allah's religion, the religion of Islam. Those who split into sects wrong their own souls. Those who split into sects. In this situation, although these know this very well, like what? When Abraham broke the idols, he put the axe on the neck of the big idol. Who broke these idols, they say. Who broke them? There is someone called Abraham who keeps talking about them, they say. He broke them. Call him here. Who broke them, it says. Probably that big idol broke them, he says. Well, would that one break them, he says. You know too that it would not break them, he says.

In this way the verse says the following. They too know from their deeds that they are deficient, it says. You are the wrongdoers, you, says Allah Almighty. They, from their own deeds: the real wrongdoers are you, you. He passes over these. Then, He says, they return to their old misguidance. And to Abraham, since this idol cannot do this itself, we will punish you, they say. And Allah Almighty saves him from that punishment, that is, from the punishment of fire. They too know they really are at a dead end, but, as in the time of Abraham, those people said: the real wrongdoers are you, you. But then again that covenant of theirs from before does not let go of them; their nafs likes it that way, and they quickly return to their old ways again.

The verses always show us the states of people. We see the verses under (?). Otherwise where would we get these from? These people's feelings – the verses are a mirror to people. You must know the verses well. Yes. I don't know which surah the verse I quoted is in, but that it is a verse from the Quran we know. Must it be in this particular surah? Today even someone who knows Arabic, who has memorised it, doesn't know in which part the thing he says, recites, is. If I told you a verse, he wouldn't know which surah it's in. But if I said the verse while he was reciting the surah, he would know. Yes.

So pay attention to Allah's word.

Learn it well. Learn it well. And accordingly, measure hadiths against these verses very well, and understand whether they are hadith or not. If you can't know, ask someone who knows, and learn. Learn. Look how beautiful: say, Allah, abandoning Allah, the idols you worship, I have been forbidden to worship them. This is to the Prophet personally. What does it say? My Lord educated me, He educated me well. That's the hadith. Yes. Say: I do not follow your desires. Why? That the Prophet not follow their desires, Allah Almighty commands. Not follow their desires. If these people in the darkness of shirk used their reason and had sound minds, what they made with their hands, which brings no benefit even to themselves, believing them to be gods, would they worship it? Such people are people incapable of guiding themselves. They are without reason.

They are people who do not want to use their reason. For this reason their wishes and desires of the nafs never end. Yes. People who cannot reform their nafs: their desires of the nafs never end. The more they get, the more they take; the more they eat, the more (?); let more and more come. And Allah Almighty gives them as an example. Examples – how (?), I will leave you as an example, He says: today I will save your lifeless body and as a lesson to the worlds I will leave you, He says. To people too in some cases, even if (?), according to their weight He gives and gives, gives and gives, according to their natural state.

Then the man has attained everything, he has everything to do, all his hopes are broken, he commits suicide. He commits suicide. So in the end, even though the desire of the nafs is not satisfied, he has no more capacity of mind left to do anything, since he doesn't know what more to do, owning everything. Satan, by closing Allah's paths of mercy to him, shows him so nicely the paths that draw to the fire, and, making him think he will find peace by committing suicide, makes him end his life. And in this situation, because he took the life Allah created himself, he becomes one of the people of hell.

Yes. Their reason – they are people who do not want to use it; for this reason their wishes and desires of the nafs never end; their wishes and desires are the laws Allah Almighty forbade; for this reason: My Beloved, say: I do not follow your wishes and desires; in that case I would truly have gone astray and would not be among those rightly guided.

So people who do not use their reason and ascribe partners to Allah are both confused and people not on the right path. If they die in this state, in the hereafter, deprived of Allah's mercy, they will be subjected to eternal punishment.

Yes.
