Translation

So that you won’t be able to have excuse saying; “Books have only been given to two nations before us (Christians and Jews); we however were unaware of their readings”.

Tafsir

Allah (swt) is free from all imperfect attributes. He knows even the smallest questions that people have, so He answers all their questions with Verses and makes them bear witness to Allah by their own deeds. This is how Allah reveals His Verses so that people may determine their exact position without any evasion.

The Torah and the Gospel were revealed in languages other than Arabic. This is one of the reasons why Allah (swt) revealed the Holy Qur'an in Arabic, so that the Arabs would not use this as an excuse to say that we do not understand their language and therefore we do not know the information in the Book.

What is said in the video

Yes, Surah Al-An'am, verse 156 is where we left off.

In His verse Allah Almighty: "The Book was sent down only to two groups before us, the Christians and the Jews,

and we were truly unaware of what they read" — lest you say this; there it ends. Lest you say "we were unaware".

What does this mean? The Torah and the Gospel were sent down in the languages of the tribes, other than Arabic.

In a language those people would understand, in their own language they were sent down. The Torah and the Gospel.

So that the Arabs and the Arab polytheists would not say: we did not understand their language. If a book had been sent down to us too from Allah in our own language, we too would have followed it and believed in Allah. "Lest you say this, We did so," He says. That is, We sent down the Quran in Arabic. At the same time, Arabic is, of all the world's languages, the root. Because it is a very rich language, and since Allah's word is based on letters, the Holy Quran, in a language all the worlds can understand in the best way, was sent down in Arabic. Yes. What does it say here? Allah Almighty is free from deficient attributes.

Since He knows even the smallest questions people will ask, all their questions He answers with verses, and through the deeds they themselves do He makes them witnesses of themselves before Allah. So that people are left with no way out and determine their own places completely, Allah declares His verses in this way. Just as we said, the Torah and the Gospel were sent down in non-Arabic languages. So that the Arabs, using this as an excuse, would not say: we don't understand their languages, so we are not acquainted with the knowledge in that book — one of the reasons Allah Almighty sent down the Holy Quran in Arabic is this. Indeed He says: "The Book was sent down only to two groups before us, the Christians and the Jews." The Book. That is, the Torah, the Psalms and the Gospel.

These. What does it say? "The Book was sent down only to two groups before us." It was sent down to the Christians and the Jews. "And we were truly unaware of what they read." That is, we did not understand them in their language either. Since we speak the Arabic language and no book was sent down to us, lest you say "we were unaware that it was sent down to them", Allah Almighty has sent the Holy Quran in Arabic as a mercy to the whole of humankind.
