Al-A'raf 70: They said; “Did you come to us so that we would worship only Allah and so that we would leave the ones that our ancestors have been worshipping? If you are among the truthful ones, bring (to us) the punishment that you have threatened us with.”

Translation

They said; “Did you come to us so that we would worship only Allah and so that we would leave the ones that our ancestors have been worshipping? If you are among the truthful ones, bring (to us) the punishment that you have threatened us with.”

Tafsir

So this people said to Hud, "Have you been sent to us to serve one God and to leave what our ancestors worshipped?" But Hud repeatedly warned his people and tried to explain to them that what they made with their hands would not be gods and that the forms they worshipped would not benefit them. If you continue in this behavior, Allah will give you a calamity. Allah does not love the people who transgress. Ignoring these warnings, his people went even further.

(They said), "If you are truthful, bring (us) the torment which you threaten us with. In this case they openly challenged Allah. These ignorant and unintelligent people did not realize that Allah cannot be defied. Their pride and greatness took root in their own selves and they rebelled against Allah who created them. Just as Satan challenged Allah, they followed the same path. They became friends of Iblis. To those who make friends with their enemies, to the people who transgress, Allah (swt) inevitably informs the people of His justice, without imposing a public prosecution on such people.

What is said in the video

In Surah Al-A'raf, verse 70: They said: Have you come to us so that we serve Allah alone and abandon what our forefathers used to worship? Look, Allah Almighty says this in His verse. Although only a short time had passed over these people, that is, over the people who were destroyed, these living people too, how they resembled those forefathers, He says. That is, although only a short time had passed over the destroyed people, how, He says, they followed in their forefathers' footsteps, resembled their forefathers. Here a verse now comes to my mind. This verse already confirms that (?) the verses, doesn't it.

What does it say here? They said: Have you come so that we serve Allah alone and abandon what our forefathers used to worship? Doesn't Pharaoh say the same? To Pharaoh too. These, they say, leave off worshipping you, that is, they covet your rule, sir, and to drive you out of your land, is that why, they say, they talk to you like this, they say.

Have you come, he says, to drive us out of our land? To us, he says, you, sir, are doing magic, you are showing (?). Whatever you do, we will not believe you, he says. And what does he say after that? Pharaoh turns to his people. He, Pharaoh, deceived his people, says Allah Almighty. How did he deceive them? Whose is this land of Egypt, he says? Whose are the rivers flowing here? Aren't they mine, he says. As if he had created them himself. Fine, suppose it was yours. Now the soil you lie in is Allah's soil too, and that body of yours was a trust from Allah to you. Now, are you alive, the owner of the Nile and of (?)?

This is foolishness itself.

If you are of the truthful, bring us the punishment you threaten us with, he says. All, every one of them says the same thing. Pharaoh says the same thing too. Go on, bring the punishment. How patient Allah Almighty is. He gives them calamities.

He gives blood, He gives the plague of locusts, He gives an invasion of frogs, He gives (?), He gives and gives. But he simply does not come round. In the end, while drowning, he says, I believe in the Lord of Moses. Now? says Allah Almighty, now you believe? And it wasn't that he believed; he would say it there to save his life. He says it. Had he believed, Allah is not unjust, He would have saved him from there. That was his covenant. That is how it was to go.

Thereupon this people said to Hud (peace be upon him): Have you been sent to us so that we serve Allah alone and abandon what our forefathers used to worship? Yes. You were sent. Who sent you, they say? Who sent you? Where did you get this from? Yes, even though they said that, Hud (peace be upon him) warned his people again and again, tirelessly, trying to explain to them that what they made with their hands could not be gods, that the figures they worshipped would be of no benefit to them. If you continue with this behaviour, Allah will send you a calamity; Allah does not love peoples who transgress the limits, he says.

Yes, O my people, Allah also created these things you make with your hands. These figures you have made, the gods you have waited for in your imagination; there is no such god. Nor is there any being that has taken such a form and will save you, he says. So their owner and their creator is Allah, the One, he says. Turn to Him. This time the people of Hud say to him, to Hud, as follows. If you are of the truthful, bring us the punishment you threaten us with, they said. So in this situation they openly challenged Allah, this time. These ignorant, senseless people could not grasp that one cannot stand against Allah.

Their pride and arrogance took hold in their selves, and against Allah who created them they rebelled. Where? In fact at that Elestü bi-rabbiküm. Their desires, wishes and aims were written for them as destiny. So when they came into the world, they play that scenario as the actors of the scenario they had written.

Just like Iblis challenging Allah, they followed the same path. They became friends of Iblis. To those who befriend their enemies, to peoples who transgress the limits, Allah Almighty, without bringing a public case against such ones, announces His justice to people inescapably.

Without establishing His justice at once, He knows what will become of them too, for His justice He sends messengers, He sends scholars. Messengers. Without sending warners, He says, to the centre of that rebellious people, Allah Almighty does not (?) that town. There. Yes.
