Or, were the people of those nations confident that Our punishment would not come to them while they were sleeping at night?
Tafsir
With this verse, Allah (swt) says that people are in a state of helplessness, that they do not know what will happen in the world in the next second, where they will be exposed to an earthquake and a collapse or a disaster, and what will happen to them, and how can people who are unconscious, who do not know the program that Allah has programmed the universe, who do not know what will happen to them on Allah's property, how can people who live unaware of what will happen to them be sure of themselves?
It is Allah who knows what will happen in this whole universe, moment by moment, until the Day of Judgment. Whoever obeys Allah, Allah will reward him. Otherwise no one can be confident.
According to this verse, Allah (swt) says to the people, "Are the people of those countries, those who disbelieved in Allah and denied His Prophets, sure that Our punishment will not come upon them?" This means that people are aware of the existence of Allah, otherwise they would not have worshipped idols. In this case, they have disbelieved in Allah because of their ego and the lie they have fabricated against Allah, and because they like to follow Satan and taghut.
He informs us with this verse how ignorant such people are. (Or are the people of those countries sure that Our punishment will not come upon them while they sleep at night?) means that wise people cannot be sure of anything except trust in Allah.
What is said in the video
Or did the people of those lands, at night while asleep, feel secure that Our punishment would not come to them? At night you've gone to bed, ooh, you're lying down. Is it certain you'll make it to morning? Did you feel secure that Allah's affliction, His punishment, would not come to you? Or in the daytime, in that moment of pleasure, or while at work, in the daylight, did you feel secure that Allah's punishment would not come to you?
Allah Almighty knows very well when He will send His punishment. With this verse Allah Almighty, that people are in a state of helplessness, that is, wholly unaware of the unseen, that only under Allah's mercy do they carry on their lives, how beautifully He tells us this, Allah Almighty. That is, of the life of this world, of the afflictions to come to us from Allah Almighty unaware, our carrying on with our lives, is it because we feel secure from Allah Almighty's affliction? So, O man, know your helplessness. When you don't know what will happen a second later, do not boast, do not be proud, do not (?), do not rebel against Allah.
Say 'Allah' and leave the rest. Yes.
Not knowing what will happen in the world a year from now, where they will face an earthquake, a cave-in or a disaster, nor what will befall people themselves; unaware people. Indeed. Here we eat, drink and have fun, a building collapse on our heads, (?). Why did you feel secure? Why did you feel secure? Of nothing at all. So do everything in moderation. Do it within the framework of Allah's laws. My Lord does not tell you not to have fun; have fun. Have fun, but with your manners and decency. Have fun within the measured religion of Islam. Yes.
Not knowing the program by which Allah programmed the universe, living on Allah's property unaware of what will befall them, how can people be sure of themselves? Yes.
So the one who knows what will happen in this whole universe moment by moment until the Day of Judgement is Allah. Whoever obeys Allah, Allah rewards him. Otherwise no one can be sure of himself. So according to this verse, Allah Almighty, addressing people: did the people of those lands, that is, those who opposed Allah and denied their prophets, feel secure that Our punishment would not come to them? By saying this, it means that people are aware of Allah's existence. Otherwise they would not worship idols. In this case man, purely from his nafs and the lie he invented against Allah, and also because they enjoy following Iblis and (?), have denied Allah.
So how deep in ignorance such people are, through this verse He makes known to us. 'Or did the people of those lands, asleep at night, feel secure that Our punishment would not come to them?' Its saying this means that people of reason, apart from trusting Allah, can be secure of nothing else. They will trust only in Allah. Apart from Him they can be secure of nothing. Yes. So people of reason, apart from trusting Allah, of nothing a life in which they can be secure, they must not think of.
What does it say? Or did the people of the lands, in the forenoon, while amusing themselves, feel secure that Our punishment would not come to them?
So a moment ago the night, now the forenoon, the daytime, that is, while they amuse themselves, (?) twenty-four hours it speaks of, night and day. Moment by moment, from Allah Almighty's disaster, or from the afflictions to befall us, none of us can be safe. We cannot say that a moment later I will live in peace. We cannot say that a moment later we will leave here safe and sound. We cannot say that a moment later we will carry on our lives within our lifespan. We know nothing.
Man's life toward the future is just like this. On a dark night, a long narrow road.
Like this, you touch both sides, both sides, a tunnel. But pitch dark. You keep going here.
Just as you see nothing in front of you, you can know nothing of your future. Of your future. Dark.
When you have lived it, second by second, moment by moment, it gets light like this, ah, so this was my destiny, you say. If I go on this way, to my Lord, on my Lord's path if you go, perhaps I will attain my Lord's mercy, you say, and in this way, with this hope, on our path, by the way of Islam, with their Islam we will go on, inshallah. Yes.
