Verily, that which they are in (religion) is destroyed. And what they are doing is groundless and wrong.“
Tafsir
Hadrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm' turned to his people: O my people! The religion they are in has been destroyed, that is, there is no such religion. The things they worship are falsehood, that is to say, they are fabricated objects. Can man worship what his hands have made as gods? If they were of any use to him, he would have opposed the form you have given him in a bad way, according to your will. So Allah has sent His Messenger to enlighten your path and guide you. What they worship, what they have invented as religion is falsehood, it has collapsed in the face of the truth.
What is said in the video
If you have questions, we will answer them. Surah Al-A'raf, verse 139: Surely, the religion these people are in is destroyed, and what they are doing is false, says Moses. That is, Allah sent you a prophet; the religion these people are in is destroyed, that is, this is no religion, he says. It is false. Yes. And what they are doing is false. That is, it has no basis at all. They are wronging their own selves, he says.
Moses (peace be upon him) turned to his people. O my people, the religion these people are in is destroyed. That is, there is no such religion. The things they worship are false. That is, they have no basis at all. (?) Does a person worship what he made with his own hands as a god? If they could benefit themselves, then, in proportion to your wish, they would have objected to the bad shape you gave them. So Allah sent His prophets to light your way and lead you to guidance. What these people made up as a religion to worship is false; before the truths it has collapsed.
Now let us flesh this part out. Does a person worship what he made with his hands as a god? we said. If they could benefit themselves, that is, if it were a god, if it were someone who knew itself, yes, then in proportion to your wish, that is, the wish a person desires and imagines, it would have objected to the bad shape you gave it. That is: O man, I created you. Am I subject to such a bad shape? Look, although I created you so beautifully, in your imagination you likened me to such creatures, it would say; yes, that is what it would say. If it could benefit itself, or if it could speak... you, in your own imagination, shape it in the very worst forms.
Yet what does Allah Almighty (?) say? Lekad halakne'l-insâne fî ahseni takvîm. I created man in the most beautiful form. Lehü'l-esmâü'l-hüsnâ. The most beautiful attributes, and the form too, are Mine, He says. So what could there be in forms more beautiful than man's most beautiful forms? All are in forms resembling one another. Human forms; and the most beautiful forms belong to Allah Almighty.
