(Moses said); “Oh my Dear Lord, forgive me and my brother, accept us to Your mercy. You are the most merciful.”
Tafsir
Upon this, Hazrat Musa 'alaihis-salâm' left Hazrat Harun and turned to Allah (swt) and prayed. O my Lord, forgive me and my brother and accept us into Your mercy. For you are the most merciful of the merciful.
Hazrat Musa knew that if Allah has mercy on a people and they go astray again, He will destroy that people. Therefore, he was very afraid of this event and was not willing that they should perish along with the believers of his people, so he prayed to Allah (swt). O my Lord, there is no other door to go to except You, and there is no other God except You that we can ask from. You are our owner. We are helpless. If You do not forgive us, what will become of us, O Allah?
What is said in the video
And Moses: 'My Lord! Forgive me and my brother.' He understands that he too is blameless. That he was helpless, that he was left alone, and that to this unruly people, to this unruly people he could not make himself understood, that he (?) — he understands, and he makes (?) to Allah Almighty, he implores. 'My Lord, forgive me and my brother. Admit us into Your mercy. For You are the Most Merciful of the merciful,' he said. How beautifully they pray. Yes, however learned a person may be, however great a friend of Allah he may be, if he boasts of his state, thinks himself a great person, and in that way, in that pride and arrogance, or in that egoism, in that nafs-i hawa, let us say, regards himself, that person wrongs his own self.
Yes. Look, what do even the prophets say? The prophet: 'Forgive me and my brother. Admit us into Your mercy. For You are the Most Merciful of the merciful,' he said. People are not free of error. If even the prophets, despite being sinless, speak like this, then what about us? Us humans? Even a saint, even a friend of Allah, even the scholar of scholars, even the star of the earth, he still cannot reach a prophet's (?).
His equal. Even if he could be his equal — for example, despite his saying, 'The saints of my ummah are like the prophets of the Children of Israel' — still he is not a prophet. A prophet is different. Because they are created first from the spirit of the Prophet. They are created beings. For this reason people must know their helplessness. Their helplessness — with the worship they do, breaking their nafs-i hawa: in the face of all the blessings Allah Almighty has given, even if night and day, twenty-four hours, a person is in worship, for what Allah Almighty gave that person — health, wellbeing and mercy — he cannot render our Lord's thanks, the thanks for the mercy given to that person.
So a person must know that he is always in helplessness before his Lord and behave toward Him accordingly. He must not boast of the worship he does. He must not boast of the good deeds he does. That person will always attribute it to his Lord: 'My Lord granted it to me. My Lord showed mercy to me. Because my Lord offered them this kindness through my hand, thanks be to my Lord' — like this, always taking refuge in Allah Almighty's mercy, he will act and speak. Yes.
Thereupon Moses (peace be upon him) lets go of Aaron and, turning to Allah Almighty, he prays: 'My Lord, forgive me and my brother. Admit us into Your mercy. For You are the Most Merciful of the merciful,' he said. Moses knew that if Allah shows mercy to a people and that people falls into error again, He destroys that people. So he fears this event greatly, and since he cannot bring himself to accept that these be destroyed together with the believers among the people, he prays to Allah Almighty. He takes refuge in our Lord, that is, he prays seeking refuge in His mercy. 'My Lord, there is no door to go to other than You, no other god besides You, from whom I could ask.
You are our Master, and we are helpless. If You do not forgive us, what will become of us, O Allah,' he says. They (?) forgiveness from Allah.
