Translation

Vow to that; We have created the hell for many from the jinn and mankind. They have hearts but they do not reason with them, they have eyes, but they do not see with them, they have ears, but they do not hear with them. They are like the animals; they are even more misguided. They are the ones who are truly unaware.

Tafsir

The opening of this verse has been explained by the exegetes as follows (Surely We created many of the jinn and mankind for Hell). Allah (swt) is attributed in this case. Since the will is in the hands of man. Allah (swt) will hold them accountable for what they do. So why would He remove the will from man and use His will on man and create him for hell? If He had created these people for hell, what is the fault of these people that Allah (swt) would have created these people for hell? And if He created these people for hell, why would He send a Prophet and a Book to invite people to guidance? By deceiving these people, does it not show that Allah (swt) is doing an empty work? However, Allah (swt) is free from all deficient attributes. No one will be able to blame Him. Because everyone will be held accountable for what he has done. The correct version of the verse is as in the opening of the translation.

Allah (swt) created heaven and hell. Whoever does not do what Allah (swt) says, takes His Verses lightly, does not submit to Allah (swt) out of pride and arrogance, denies Allah (swt), disbelieves in Allah (swt) and associates partners with Him (swt), these people are destined for the Hell of Allah (swt). And whoever submits to Allah, obeys Him, fulfills His commands, rules by His Verses, believes in Allah and the Last Day, and avoids His prohibitions, he will inherit the Paradise that Allah has created.

Since Allah is the Owner of justice, Allah has prepared the places of heaven and hell for those who obey Allah and those who do not obey Allah. He has placed the will in the hands of mankind and jinn, and because of the evil deeds they have committed against Allah (swt) with their own will, they have aspired to Hell, the place of torment created by Allah (swt). So Allah did not create humans and jinn for hell. Humans and jinn, because they disobeyed Allah (swt) of their own free will, determined their own place. Allah, the Judge of Judges, will decide between the human and jinn groups without discriminating between any of them. He will place everyone in their rightful place.

Those who rebel against Allah (swt), those who disbelieve in Allah (swt), those who cannot bring themselves to acknowledge the existence of Allah (swt), those who deny Allah (swt) out of pride and arrogance, those who dictate their desires and wishes according to their own desires, these have dulled their sense of comprehension of Allah (swt). Instead of this dulled perception, they have developed the opposite feeling of hatred and hatred towards Allah (swt). Therefore, instead of the light of faith in their hearts, they have developed feelings of pessimism and restlessness. Therefore, they have hearts, but they cannot keep Allah (swt) alive in their hearts. They cannot comprehend Him and do not even want to remember Him. They have eyes. With these eyes, they cannot see Allah (swt), even though He reveals His visible existence to people. One of the verses says, "Thousands of miracles appear before your eyes every day, but you do not see them, you are blind". Those whose hearts are filled with hatred against Allah (swt) eat and drink the blessings that Allah (swt) gives, but they do not give thanks to Allah (swt). In such a situation, which of the events that occur in front of their eyes will they remember Allah (swt) and attribute to His existence? Such people are also blind. This blindness is the blindness of not being able to see the existence of Allah (swt), and they are even more blind than the normal blind, the blind who cannot see their surroundings. There are many people whose eyes are blind, but whose heart is sharper than the one whose eyes are open.

These people have ears, but they are deaf and do not hear. These people hear the words of the world and bad words very well. But their deafness is towards the Word of Allah (swt). So if the word of truth is spoken in front of these people, do they really not hear? They hear very well. Their deafness and inaudibility is that they are overwhelmed and bored when the Word of truth is spoken. Because they have dulled their sense of realizing Allah (swt) and being with Him, they either change the subject, or they say, is this a time to talk about Allah? Or they leave the assembly. These are the true deaf. The normal deaf person is full of the sense of learning and applies what he has learned. Since all human beings are created in helplessness, they are obliged to learn the truth. Otherwise they cannot avoid mistakes. The deaf, who are deprived of their sense of comprehension of Allah (swt) and do not want to hear the Word of truth, cannot learn the truth. They cannot realize the eternal abode, the Hereafter, and turn towards it. Therefore, people who are deprived of hearing the truth, even though they can hear the qualities of the eternal abode, are the deaf who are destined for torment in the Hereafter.

(They are like animals. They are even more confused in the way they go, and it is they who are the heedless.) People with sealed hearts, blind eyes and deaf ears: Such people are like animals. All people know the qualities of animals. Animals eat, copulate and breed from morning till night. They live their lives based on their duties. These are their qualities. To eat and drink is to have intercourse and reproduce. The human being who does not know the truth has the same qualities. He will eat and drink and have intercourse. He will run after lust. Such people are more deviant than animals in the way they go. Every animal completes its mission according to the nature for which it was created and fulfills the characteristics that were given to that animal. Man, on the other hand, goes beyond the purpose for which he was created and uses his own will. He denies his Lord. He does not recognize his creator. So, if we think rationally, when we compare this human being with the animal, is not this human being more perverse and confused than the animal?

What is said in the video

Verse 179, the verse that has been interpreted deficiently — what does it say here? Allah forbid, they have always ascribed deficient attributes to Allah. Truly, of the jinn and humans, many for hell We have created, it says. Bismillahirrahmanirrahim. Ve lekad zere'nâ li cehenneme kesîran mine'l-cinni ve'l-ins, it says. Truly, of the jinn and humans, many for hell We have created. Is such a thing possible? Such a thing — would our Lord, the Owner of the worlds, create it? He would create jinn and humans for hell? Then, if Allah is free of deficient attributes, if He is of perfect rank, if He sends prophets here and wants people to attain guidance, and yet created us for hell — what does He want from us, then?

Is Allah Almighty deceiving us? Yes. Can such things ever be attributed to Allah? Whereas it says: Truly, hell, hell, for many of the jinn and humans We created. This world is the likeness and shadow of the hereafter. Since the world is the likeness and shadow of the hereafter, were the prisons in the world built for people? They were built for those who commit crimes.

Then shouldn't there be a prison for those who go against Allah, too? Allah Almighty will feed you and give you drink, place every blessing of His at your command, create you the most honored above the worlds, make you one addressed by His essence, (?) give you of His spirit, and you will do as you please, committing wrong against Him, wrong against your own self, rebelling against Allah. Does this fit with decency and manners, with Allah's law? It doesn't fit even human law. Yes. So people have ascribed deficient attributes to Allah. And hell was created for those who commit crimes. Allah Almighty makes it known too.

What does He say? O human being! Come to your senses. Use your reason. I have sent you into this world, a world of trial. A (?) world. I sent you into a world where My essence is not seen. Look, I am making My essence known to you. These worlds, these created things did not come from human hands; even if these worlds joined together, since no other being would come forth that could achieve this power, that would possess this might — since these worlds I alone created, He says, since there is no god besides Me, though I approach you with this much grandeur, My knowledge, My power, with what will, with what mind do you oppose Me and go against My command? He says. If you go against My command, I too, look, for you have prepared a place here.

That is, I have prepared a place of punishment, He says. Doesn't the state say the same? It says: O (?), O my nation, my laws, the laws of our state are these. If anyone goes outside them, I will put you in prison.

Isn't that so? Yes. And we, Allah Almighty — we fit Him into our minds and blame Him. What do we say? Truly, We created many of the humans and jinn for hell. Allah forbid. The correct one is: Truly, We created hell for many of the jinn and humans. They have hearts with which they do not comprehend. They have eyes with which they do not see. They have ears with which they do not hear. They are like animals. Indeed, in their course they are even more lost. It is they who are the heed— the truly heedless, it says. Yes, they are the truly heedless.

And look: Truly, We have created hell for many of the jinn and humans. They have hearts with which they do not comprehend. Yes. They have eyes with which they do not see. They have ears with which they do not hear. They are like animals. Indeed, in their course they are even more lost. They are the truly heedless. And in a verse Allah Almighty says: Hatemallâhu alâ kulûbihim ve alâ sem'ihim, ve alâ ebsârihim gışâveh, ve lehüm azâbün azîm.

What does it say? Allah has sealed their hearts and their ears — Allah sealed them, but they said: have them sealed. They said: have them sealed. Over their eyes a kind of veil has been drawn. Which they themselves had drawn. And for them there is a great punishment in this world and the hereafter, it says.

It says this, but look what it says here. Allah has sealed: hatemallâhu alâ kulûbihim — their heart — ve alâ sem'ihim — their ear — ve alâ ebsârihim — on their eyes — gışâveh ve lehüm azâbün azîm. Now it says there is a (?) punishment for them. They have eyes with which they do not see. That is, they do not see the truth. Otherwise, they see their surroundings. They do not want to see the truth. They have ears with which they do not hear. That is, they do not hear the truth. Otherwise, they do hear. They hear very well. They are like animals. An animal too sees and hears, but does not know the truth, does not know what is right.

In their course they are even more lost. Because an animal, within the will built into it, that is, within the program — let us not say will, but within the program — does its duty. This one, within his own will, since he also has reason, since he was created honored, does worse things than that animal. In his course he is more astray. They are the truly heedless. That is, such people do not come to guidance, they turn (?), toward Allah they are arrogant; these are the truly heedless, those who do not use their reason, it says.

Yes. This verse, the commentators have interpreted it in this way: The commentators: Truly, We created many of the jinn and humans for hell. This interpretation is wrong. In that case Allah Almighty is ascribed a deficient attribute. Since partial free will is in the human being's hands. Allah Almighty will call people to account for what they have done. Then why would He remove partial free will from the human being, use His own will over the human being and create him for hell? Why? Yes. Why did He create? He created the human being so that His essence would be known.

If He had created these people for hell, what is these people's fault, that Allah Almighty should have created them for hell? And if He had created these people for hell, why would Allah Almighty send prophets and books and invite people to guidance? Would that not show Allah Almighty deceiving these people and doing something pointless? Yet Allah Almighty is free of deficient attributes. No one will be able to blame Him. Because everyone will be called to account for what they have done. The correct reading of the verse is as in the way the translation was interpreted, that is, the way we interpreted it above.

Allah Almighty created paradise and hell. Whoever does not do what Allah Almighty says, takes His verses lightly, out of pride and arrogance does not submit to Allah Almighty, denies Allah, associates partners with Him, these people are asking for the hell of Allah Almighty. And whoever bows to Allah, obeys Him, carries out His commands, by His verses is ruled, believes in Allah and the Last Day, and avoids what He forbids, he too becomes heir to the paradise Allah Almighty created. Yes. Since Allah Almighty is the Owner of justice, for those who obey Allah Almighty and those who do not, Allah Almighty has prepared the places of paradise and hell.

He has given partial free will into the hands of humans and jinn, and the race of humans and jinn, by their own will, against Allah Almighty, for the evils they committed — His hell, the place of punishment Allah Almighty created, is what they asked for. Yes.

So Allah did not create humans and jinn for hell. Because humans and jinn went against Allah Almighty by their own will, they determined their own places themselves. Allah, as the Judge of judges, among the races of humans and jinn, without discriminating against any of them, will decide. He will place everyone where they deserve. This is our Lord's promise.

Those who go against Allah Almighty and rebel against Him, those who deny Allah, those who, regarding Allah Almighty's existence, cannot bring their nafs to accept Him, those who turn to denial out of pride and arrogance, those who, in proportion to their own aims, have their wishes and (?) written — these have dulled their faculties for perceiving Allah Almighty. That is, they have not set traits in themselves in that direction.

In place of these dulled faculties of perception, their opposite, toward Allah Almighty feelings of hatred and loathing, have developed. Therefore, in their hearts, instead of the light of faith, gloom, gloom and feelings of unrest have developed. So they have hearts. But these hearts — with this heart they cannot keep Allah Almighty alive within. They cannot grasp Him and do not even want to remember Him. They have eyes. With these eyes, although Allah Almighty lays out His existence outwardly before people's eyes, they do not see these.

In a verse, too, He says: before your eyes every day thousands of miracles appear and you do not see, (?). Those whose hearts are full of hatred and loathing toward Allah Almighty, the blessings Allah Almighty gives, they eat and drink, but they do not thank Allah. So people who live unaware of Allah Almighty's existence, of the events that appear before their eyes, which will they, remembering Allah Almighty, connect to His existence? Such people are (?) blind. This blindness is the blindness of not seeing Allah Almighty's existence. And those who are normally blind — even blinder than the blind who cannot see their surroundings are these people. There are blind people who cannot see their surroundings yet long for their Lord.

Yes, there are many people whose eyes are blind, yet the world of their heart is sharper than that of one whose eyes are open. Yes, sharper. These people have ears, but they are deaf, they do not hear. These people hear worldly talk and bad words very well. But their deafness is toward the word of Allah Almighty. Well, if the word of truth is spoken near these people, do they really not hear? They hear it very well. Their deafness and not-hearing is seen in how, when the word of truth is spoken, they feel stifled and bored. Since their feelings for perceiving Allah Almighty and being with Him have been dulled, they either change the subject or say: is now a time to talk about Allah? Or they leave that gathering. These are the truly deaf.

A person who is ordinarily deaf is full of the urge to learn and applies what he learns. Since all people are created in helplessness, they are obliged to learn what is right; otherwise they cannot escape mistakes. The deaf who, deprived of the sense of perceiving Allah Almighty, do not want to hear the word of truth cannot learn the truth. They cannot perceive the abode of the hereafter, which is the eternal home, and turn toward it. So, the qualities of the everlasting, eternal home — people who, despite hearing them, are deprived of hearing the truth, are deaf.

These are like animals. Indeed, in their course they are more lost. They are the truly heedless. People whose hearts are sealed, whose eyes are blind, whose ears are deaf. Such people are like animals. All people know the characteristics of animals. Animals eat from morning till evening, mate and breed. These are their characteristics. Eating and drinking, mating and breeding. Yet the person who does not know — in such a person the same characteristics exist. Yes, in the person who does not know, that is, the person who does not know Allah's truth, the same characteristics exist. He will eat and drink, and he will mate.

He will chase after lust. Such people are, in their course, more astray than animals. Every animal completes its duty according to the nature it was created with. And whatever traits that animal has been given, they carry out those qualities. Man, however, going outside the purpose of his creation, using his own will, his Lord he denies; he does not acknowledge the One who created him. So if we think with sound reason, when we compare the animal with this person, is this person not, in his course, more astray and lost than the animal? Yes.
