Did they not realize that there is no delusion in their friend (Muhammad)? He is only a clear admonisher.
Tafsir
Have these people not thought that a person who addresses the minds with such eloquence and wisdom cannot be mad or insane? There is no madness in Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). However, although he addressed the minds of those who listened to him, (those who drowned the light of faith in the darkness of shirk because of their stubbornness) had a deficiency in their minds, and they saw their own existence as a mirror in the face of Hazrat Muhammad (SAW). Since they themselves are mad and insane, their own words are reflected back to them as truth.
It is the fact that every mind is given as a means of knowing Allah and as a proof for human beings, and that the Prophet (PBUH) explains the truth by addressing the minds. Preventing the most honorable creation, human beings, from living as the masks of Satan. It is to awaken people by preventing them from worshipping people or what they have made with their hands as gods.
It is said that this verse was revealed on the following occasion. One day in Makkah, when the Prophet (PBUH) was gathering the tribes on the hill of Safa, he came to the tribes and addressed them and told them that Allah (swt) is the only God, that there is no other God but Him, that the idols made by the hands of men are of no use even to themselves, and that the heavens and the earth and all that is between them belongs to Allah. Then one of these tribes came out and said, "Your master must have been insane, for he kept on talking until the morning. They say that this verse was revealed thereupon.

SURAH AL-A'RAF, WE HAVE COME TO VERSE 184. Did they not reflect that in their companion Muhammad there is no madness? He is only a clear warner.
Those
people, did they not reflect? They said the Messenger of Allah was possessed, they said he was mad, they said, mad. Well, they said he is not master of himself, they said, they said, they said. Who said this?
Those who think themselves somebody,
who in fact are more astray in their conduct, who, within the circle of ignorance, within shirk, associate partners with Allah — they said these things. One day the Prophet (peace be upon him), in Mecca the Honoured, to a caravan staying in a tent, explains the Truth. The Truth, the men are enchanted. They become (?). What kind of person is this, they say. At that moment Abu Lahab comes in. Don't you pay attention to him. He is possessed, unaware of himself, he says. He is not master of himself, he says. And the men say: we almost believed him, they say. Yes. In this way, those who think themselves somebody and, before the light of Islam, that light of Islam seeing as a mirror and seeing themselves in that mirror, the possessed, the mindless, the fools, who call the Prophet (peace be upon him) possessed, who call him mad, those who, by this fleeting worldly life's pleasures and delights, are carried away, those who take Satan as companion, who turn their backs on Allah — tomorrow on the Day of Resurrection — and I say tomorrow; Hodja, is it that near? Hundreds, maybe millions of years; maybe nearer than tomorrow, yes, Mehmet Akif says so too: the days I promised you will dawn, it is my right; maybe tomorrow, maybe nearer than tomorrow, he says.
Because everything we say is the counterpart of the verses. That is why we say tomorrow is near. You, He says, when you are resurrected at the gathering, when you are resurrected at the gathering, you will ask one another: how long did we stay under the ground? Some of you a day, He says. And the wisest of you will say we stayed a little less than a day, He says. Yes. Maybe nearer than tomorrow, there. But ask the angels charged with counting how long you lay under the ground, He says. So in this case, maybe nearer than tomorrow, in the hereafter, when he sees that torment, in a world where there is no more destruction, no death, those people's pleasures and delights in worldly life will wrap around their necks as fire.
Yes. Now when I say it like this — for the people there, wrapping around their necks as fire — we say this meaning metaphorically. (?) There are such places — Allah Almighty says so. Sparks, He says, throwing, camels, yellow ones — into places throwing sparks like yellow camels they will be put. Will be put. Isn't this torment? Isn't it a torment wrapped around the neck? They will lie on fires in shackles. They will be beaten with whips. With iron whips. Isn't this a torment? Isn't it a fire wrapped around the neck? Yes. Like a person's fate written on the forehead, like destiny, his too wrapped around his neck — destiny, a destiny of fire, a destiny of torment.
Yes. In this
situation the Prophet (peace be upon him) delivers the Truth. The Truth. And before passing to the hereafter, and also in his sermon, he says so beautifully to people: Have I explained the truth to you, he says. You have. Have I? You have. Have I? he says. You have. You have, O Messenger of Allah. He makes Allah Almighty witness too. Be witness, O Lord, he says.
So, a person's, when departing the world, that death drink, that pain of death — Allah offering him the drinks of Paradise, to people whose tongues are tied from that innocence, at that moment of death Allah Almighty offering drinks and bringing them to peace — the good news of that day.
And to the others, He says, Allah Almighty, on their faces and backs, He says, those charged with taking their souls strike and strike, He says, as they take their souls.
In this world when a thorn pricks your finger, you whimper. A thorn pricked me too when I was making the garden, and here its black tip can be seen, look, at the tip. I haven't taken it out yet.
Well, when this touches something just a little, you remember right away there's a thorn here, you say.
It hurts. It bothers you.
In this case, if you love your life this much, the torment of the hereafter, that fire, how will you endure it? Will you have the strength for it? There Allah Almighty says this: When they are exposed to the fire, when they come out of that fire, like a pitch-black piece of coal, He says, pitch black, they are unconscious, laid face down on the ground; then 5-6 seconds (?), that skin, like soil left without water, cracks; underneath, (?) fresh white again. His own skin comes out. Again they take him into that fire — the charged ones. Well, Hodja, weren't we not going to enter bodies? What skin is this skin?
Defining yourself as spirit, nafs and soul, don't you dream? You yourself wander and roam around in your dream. There too your spirit has a shape of its own, an attribute. That, in this case — however you appear; since man was created as the noblest of creatures, in the same way our spirit is in this form we see, but not the attributes of youth or old age here: the attribute of age thirty-three, for our women eighteen, and they will be in the hereafter as the most attractive and most beautiful of creatures. Why? How does it happen, Hodja? Allah Almighty — as if come out of (?), He says, never having seen daylight, He says — when describing people like pearls, He says, when describing the houris — the people here, the women here, how they become more beautiful than them, He says.
Now a single verse will settle it for you. We gave man from Our spirit, He says. Since (?) the most beautiful attributes, there are no beings more beautiful than Allah's attribute. However beautifully He may have created. Now it is understood, I suppose, how attractive and beautiful man will be created, our women in the hereafter as eighteen-year-olds. Yes, and their being created as their queens.
Everything becomes very beautiful in the light of the verses. Proven. Yes, did they not reflect that in their companion Muhammad there is no madness. He is only a clear warner.
Did these people not reflect that in such an eloquent, sound-minded person who addresses minds, in a person, with eloquent Arabic, a beautiful language and tone — because he recites the Quran to them — well, that in such a person there would be no madness or possession. There is no madness in Muhammad (peace be upon him). But although he addresses the minds of those who listen to him, because of their obstinacy, of those who drowned the light of faith in the darkness of shirk — since they are deficient in mind, since they saw their own existence in the face of Muhammad (peace be upon him) as the same — the madness and possession, attributed to themselves, are their own words coming back to them as reality, a reflection.
Yes. It is their own words reflecting back on them.
It is that every mind is given as knowing Allah and as proof to man, and that the Prophet (peace be upon him), addressing minds, explains the truth. It is to prevent the noblest created human beings from living as Satan's laughingstock. Preventing them from worshipping people or their handiwork as gods, it is awakening people. Yes. The Prophet's (peace be upon him) address to people: that sentence, let's read it once more. His address to people: every mind is given as knowing Allah and as proof to man, and the Prophet (peace be upon him), addressing minds: a Lord created me, you know it. There is.
So, to that Lord — to that mind, now the Messenger of Allah explaining the truth with verses.
Every mind given as knowing Allah and as proof to man, and the Prophet (peace be upon him), addressing minds, explaining the truth. It is to prevent the noblest created humans from living as Satan's laughingstock.
Addressing that mind, what does he say? O man — the one who is your enemy, and by your Lord created the most honourable, you, man: the one who is your enemy, Satan, from your Lord's presence expelled, accursed — do not be the laughingstock of such a being, he says.
Do not follow him. If you follow him — he is already accursed, and your enemy too. If you take your place in the ranks of one hostile to Allah, you too become hostile to Allah. If you go the way he goes, you too will suffer the torment he suffers, he says. Yes. What was he saying? To prevent the noblest created humans from living as Satan's laughingstock. Preventing them from worshipping people or their handiwork as gods, it is awakening people. What does he say? O man! Use your mind! Those beings you carved with your hand and shaped are created by Allah, beings unaware of themselves. If you stand before what you made with your hand and worship it, you did not worship it.
You deified your own nafs. Your own existence, your grandeur, the desire of your own nafs you (?). Indeed, in the hereafter world, at that address Elestü bi-rabbiküm, when Allah Almighty said 'I am your Lord', you, out of pride and arrogance, turned your back on Allah and, waiting for the Lord of your imagination, in defiance of Allah did not recognize Him as Creator. So in the world too, in the same state, your own fame and glory, your pride and arrogance, your grandeur — deifying your own nafs, your turning your back on Allah will not save you from Allah Almighty's destruction. So, O man, he says, beware, do not worship what you made with your hand.
He wants to lead you to the truth. Like the love, like the compassion a father shows his child. He is very devoted to people. Because they were all created from His spirit. Yes.
They say this verse was revealed on the following occasion. One day in Mecca the Honoured, the Prophet (peace be upon him), on the hill of Safa, at a time when the tribes had gathered, came to the tribes and, addressing them, that Allah Almighty is one, that there is no other god besides Him, that the idols people made with their hands are of no use even to themselves, that the heavens and the earth and what is between them belong to Allah — until morning he explained. Until morning. Upon this, one from these tribes stood up: your master must be mad, for he talked on and on until morning, he said.
Upon this, they say, this verse was revealed. Yes.
